Subject: MT training

Dear MTIDers,

With due respect I would like to draw attention  of all MT
concerned people that I, joined the course of Medical
Transcription at IIMT, one of the best institutes as they claim in
Delhi, after seeing their advertisement in different National
Newspapers. The course they said is of 4 month training + 2 months on-
the-job training with stipend of Rs. 4500/- per month and clearly
mentioned that employment will given after completion of the said
course i.e. 100% job Guarantee with starting salary between Rs. 7000
to 9000 per month.

I got admission only after successfully qualifying in the written
and audio test conducted by the institute. As per them, they are
conducting this test to make sure 100% employment after
completion of the course.  I may be point out further that at the
time of admission the institute had charged Rupees Twenty Five
thousand (Rs. 25,000/-) per student/candidate as course fee.

I have taken admission in the respective course with a legitimate
expectation/hope that after completion of the course I will be
placed/absorbed suitably in an organization with a respectable
salary between Rupees 7000 to 9000. I am from poor family and
with great difficulty managed to pay the fees i.e. Rs. 25,000/-.

My course started on Feb.2000 the theory class was supposed to be
completed by June and after that as per the course module we
should have been sent for on-the-job training. But from the beginning
it seems that they were not serious about our course/training and
were just interested in more and more admissions.

When we joined the course there were only two faculty for theory
and practical. These two teachers are for all batches since
morning to evening. Our batch was of evening, so we never get the
best from them and after some time both of them left the
institute. Since then there is no faculty at all, and despite of
our complaints to the center manager Ms. Charu Jain, no
appropriate action has been taken. Finally they hired a nurse as
faculty for practical as well as theory class.

Due to lack of proper faculty our theory class was running till
September. Most importantly IIMT Head-office which is in New
Delhi it self never ever come to enquire about the training and
facility in their franchise center (kalkaji) during our training
period.

Further to the point as told above this course was of six
months - 4 months theory and 2 months on-job-training with
stipend of 4500/- per month. Since they had not completed our
course i.e. on-job-training with stipend, it clears the intention
of the institute/management that they were never serious about
our course/training. They have falsely promised a 100% placement
guarantee just to attract the students so that they can easily
cheat/exploit them.

Further, I would like to draw your special attention that most of
the sufferers/students are from outside Delhi, were working in
Delhi for their lively hood and for their family. Some of them
had left their respective jobs to join this flashy course hoping
that after six months they will be placed in a good company with
a respective salary.  Now all in vain, they are suffering in
tremendous mental pressure, now they are jobless and are not able
to even feed themselves. Some student who could not manage
themselves already left Delhi with great pain and tears in their
eyes, feeling cheated.

Puzzled with running from pillar to post and after waiting for so
long to get a positive reply from IIMT, now I become
frustrated/nervous and feel cheated.

Najmul

Subject: Who is to be blamed?

Dear Amit & friends in the MT field,

While I fully agree that the MT industry in India
needs a real good facelift, the situation is not all
that distressing, as made out by Ms Rukmini Raghavan
in the latest issue of MT Newsletter.

I have been personally in touch with Hospitals, Group
practice and private practice in US, from August this
year, during my visits to US. I have had pretty good
response from the Doctors and hospital officials here
and we have finalized some long term contracts.

Yes, Doctors do ask for quality, and not all - in India
or even US will be able to deliver the right quality and
in right time. That does not really mean that Americans
will shut the doors for MT to India and US as a whole !

People who can deliver perfect quality will be in
business and continue to grow. Others will fall by the
wayside as we have seen. I believe the MT industry in
India is gradually maturing and the usual 'India
bashing' habit in US (created by fly-by-night Indian
MT units) is no more the order of the day. US Doctors
have realized that it is only the serious players who
are now left in the fray after the major shakeout in
recent months.

And that's true of any industry as well. I know of
several small and medium size fastener manufacturers
often goofing up on export commitments, either on
quality or delivery or both. But Companies like
Sundaram Fasteners (of TVS group) continue to thrive
in the export market for the very same product range.

The fact still remains that the quality of MT training
in India needs to be upgraded and that we urgently
need a governing authority to oversee this and to
certify the program. Now that we have a separate
ministry for IT both at the state and central levels,
this can be worked out. I am sure Amit will spearhead
this movement. I offer my services for codifying the
standards for the industry.

Let's not just press panic buttons all over ; there's
still lot of hopes ; let's work towards converting
these hopes into good business opportunities.

Sincerely,

R. Viswanathan

I think of joining the MT course of 4 months' duration.  The fees
will be Rs. 20,000/- (Rs. twenty thousand only).  On completion
of the course they will give the candidate a stipend of Rs.
2,000/- p.m. for two months.  On completion of 6 months i.e. 4 +
2, they will start giving salary @ Rs. 7,000/- p.m. which will be
subject to review based on periodic performance.

Pl. advise me per return whether it is advisable for a person
like me who has completed my post-graduation.  Whether there are
going to be good propspects in this.  Especially, with reference
to the software recently developed which does the transcription
automatically and may eliminate the need of a Medical
Transcriptionist.

I shall be grateful to receive your reply.

Subject: Attention : Ms Rukmini Raghavan

Dear Madam,

We have supplied software and books to one of the MT companies
based at Delhi last year.  Inspite of  repeated
reminders/phonecalls (we would have spent atleast Rs 5 to 8
thousand on this) they have not been paying us.  Is there any
association for these MT companies that we could report to or
could you suggest any other alternate way to collect the payment?

Regards

Brindha R.
